Last week I told you about Wally's limp, and asked you to keep him in your thoughts while we waited on his biopsy results. Thank you to everyone who reached out. It meant more than you know. The results came back late on Wednesday, and unfortunately, it was cancer. So on Friday, Wally had his left front leg amputated and spent the night at the clinic, and then we picked him up on Saturday at noon. I won't pretend this week was easy. But I also want to tell you that Wally is doing better than we expected. He's home, he's resting, and he's already showing us the same food-motivated spirit that Wally's had since the day I adopted him back in early 2019. At the clinic, his first meal after surgery was a bowl of dry dog food, which, if you've followed this newsletter for a while, you know is not how we normally feed him. So once we got him home, we couldn't wait to give him his first raw meal as a tripod. I caught it on video, and I think it says more than I could write in words. You can watch it here (warning: it is a bit graphic, he does look like Frankenstein's dog): Watch: Wally's first raw meal as a tripod Right now, our focus is just on letting him rest and heal. So far, he's adjusting better than we are, honestly. Once we're about a month into this new chapter, I'll be writing a full blog post about what life as a tripod looks like for Wally, from the practical adjustments we've made to how he's getting around. For now, thank you again for all the thoughts, prayers, and kind words this past week. Wally has a lot of healing ahead of him, but he's not doing it alone. Happy raw feeding, My raw feeding recommendations:
