Hey, Reader!

Last weekend I shared the story of Wally’s emergency surgery after he swallowed a squeaker.

Thankfully the surgery went well. But like many dogs recovering from surgery, he also came home with something else:

Five days of antibiotics.

Now antibiotics can absolutely be lifesaving — and in Wally’s case, they were the right call.

But they also temporarily disrupt the gut microbiome.

So once he finished his medication, I started thinking about the next step:

How do you help a dog’s gut recover after antibiotics?

Instead of throwing supplements at the problem, I focused on a food-first approach.

In today’s new blog post, I walk through exactly what I did (and why).

If your dog has ever needed antibiotics — whether for surgery, infections, or GI issues — this guide will help you understand how the microbiome rebuilds and how food can support that process.
