Hey, Reader!

When I was doing a fresh round of meal prep using duck heads and told people at my work about it, I realized that even after years of raw feeding, duck heads still make people pause.

So I figured this was the perfect excuse to resurface an older post that’s still one of my most-read resources on raw meaty bones.

This batch included:

  • duck heads and duck feet as raw meaty bones
  • whole herring
  • chicken breast
  • rabbit heart & rabbit lung
  • chicken liver
  • beef spleen
  • puréed veggies & fruit

It looks intense at first glance, I know. But for dogs who are used to chewing, duck heads are one of my favorite RMB options.

Here’s why:

  • they’re edible bones
  • they encourage proper chewing (not gulping)
  • they work well for dogs who can't have chicken or turkey
  • and yes—duck is considered a cooling protein in food energetics

If you’ve ever wondered:

  • how much bone is actually in a duck head
  • how to feed them safely
  • what to do if your dog has never had one before
  • how to store them properly

Happy raw feeding,

Barbara
